Right, well, it's done. Not my best effort, but I'm getting better, I think. Really got into it at the end there. Does everyone see my little rural jokes? Do you city-folks know what the 4-H Club is? How about FFA? Well, I'll let you see what you can see before I fill y'all in. --Doctor Phineas Crank 21:41, 28 Sep 2004 (EDT)

4-H Club Joke

An early edition of the 4-H manual allegedly read: "In order to start a club, you need a sponsor. This can be a man or a woman or a combination of both." --John Cowan 23:24, 28 Sep 2004 (EDT)

Now, that's funny! I didn't think anyone would even know what 4-H was here, much less come up with a gem like that. Most of the betrothal speech is lifted from the 4-H pledge, though heavily edited. How about FFA? Or in this case FDFG. ^_^ --Doctor Phineas Crank 08:34, 29 Sep 2004 (EDT)

  • I've certainly heard of the FFA, but I can't say the phrase "future darseed farmers of Ghyll" jumped out at me as an allusion to it, no. --John Cowan 08:07, 30 Sep 2004 (EDT)

The funny thing is, I went to college with a bunch of farm kids but never really heard about this stuff from them. They were all trying to get away from the farm, after all. Then, my sister married, and subsequently divorced, a redneck. Their son was involved in both at one point or another. What's even funnier is that I was the only kid in my Boy Scout Troop to earn Farm Mechanics merit badge! --Doctor Phineas Crank 08:34, 29 Sep 2004 (EDT)

  • Hey, just because I live on an island off the coast of North America doesn't make me totally clueless about what goes on there. --John Cowan 08:07, 30 Sep 2004 (EDT)
