I had imagined the Plain of Brahang as a rather larger place, but hey, it's all good. --John Cowan 14:48, 26 Jan 2005 (EST)

I took as my model (for relative size) the battlefield at Gettysburg. Which is roughly 50 acres. FWIW The dates are also related to earth-relative dates. --Dr. H. L. Ackroyd 16:14, 26 Jan 2005 (EST)

If The Grim Mr. Yurch is 120 lele west of Iganefta then Plain of Brahang is only 80 lele and Iganefta-on-the-Sea would be 30 lele by my reconing. --Dr. H. L. Ackroyd 19:20, 28 Jan 2005 (EST)

That'd work for me - wanna re-edit your entry to match 'em? The previous value for Mount Yurch put it far far far far in the Middle of Undefined, and your unedited would too (previously, Mount Yurch would have pan-handled below the Dagger Seas, and yours would have panhandled above the Dagger Seas). Your edits keep it more in line (but'll put it closer to Alezan). We're doing an ASCII map, because I (for one) want something that all of us could edit should the prime mapmaker disappear. I had liked http://www.dundjinn.com (Mac/PC, lots of maps, support), but some folks seem worried about the amount of time invested vs. quality of the final output. --Morbus Iff 19:48, 28 Jan 2005 (EST)

I'm concerned about these measurements. You know a lele is more than a mile, right? So, why people would, on "the Ween the 21 of Lom of -99 EC" (a single day), walk more than 80 miles (or hell, even 50 or 60 to fit it into the ASCII map) to burn someone alive, especially when that journey takes them near the "feared" Alezan (though, also, near the Dagger Seas, which could be some weird death-by-sea ritual), is confusing. A walk of 50 or 60 miles is a hard journey for anyone, much less an angry mob who wants revenge and retribution right now. I'm not even sure where the Plain fits in to this effigy burning, etc. --Morbus Iff 14:32, 30 Jan 2005 (EST)

Alright, the only way a "1250 square sugro-nanit" anything is gonna fit in the current map is if it is above the Sarfelogian Mountains. Is that what you had in mind? It'd certainly fit that a "Ridge" would be in the Mountains, and the Cataract Road will just get a little longer (so that it'll pass through the Evesque Valley, as well as the Sarfelogian Mountains). There still remains the problem above, but also the oddness in your reference to Mount Yurch. --Morbus Iff 19:33, 30 Jan 2005 (EST)

I'll share my thinking: The actual distances don't matter as long as the Plain of Brahang is between Mt. Yurch and Iganefta - probably a little closer to Mt Yurch. I imagined that when travelling to Mount Yurch from Ignafeta you'd cross the Plain of Brahang (via the Cataract Road) to the Ridge in order to start reach Yurch. The size of the plain was supposed to be roughly 50 acres. My conversion may be in error. I know that a lele was more than a mile (1.7 miles or so) I just split the diff between Ignafeta, Ignafeta-on-the-Sea and Mt. Yurch. The "square sugro-nanits" might not be the right unit to use. There isn't any comparable "area" measurement in Ghyllian measure for conversion so you have to sort of guess sometimes.

The trial and burning thing on the Plain was (to my mind) supposed to be held outside the Iganefta. Since I was detailing just such a place that had historical significace to the town I used the Plain. The only supply road comes down the Ridge to the Plain of Brahang before continuing to Ignafeta becomes a chokepoint (and hence it's use as a turnpike and the presence of the Inn). To the typical townsfolk of Ignafeta, the Plain of Brahang represents the strangulation of the town at the hands of others. (to paraphrase York of Brahang). --Dr. H. L. Ah. Ok. That's a different location than where I was erroneously thinking. It's a lot more workable now. As for the 1250 sugro-nanits square, I was fighting over that one in my sleep the other day. I suck at math crap (very heartily so), but it would be, roughly, 50 sugro-nanits x 25 sugro-nanits? That works. I'll have to start the Qestarius River from deep within the Sarfelogian Mountains, otherwise, it'll have to source from which to drain from. That's something I can address in my entries. Thanks for clearing everything up. --Morbus Iff 13:27, 31 Jan 2005 (EST)
