Ooo is a semi-precious metal found in the mines near Iganefta. The color of freshly resmelted bronze, this soft metal has been used for making coins since at least -400 EC. However, due to the somewhat shabby perception of this low-grade metal, Ooo coins, or "Ooos", are almost worthless. That all changed one day in -149 EC when Rhajoon Quezlar of the infamous Quezlar family, got the idea to produce a company coin with which to cheat, er, "pay" his employees. These coins were to be paid to employees who would, in turn, use them with the local merchants. The local merchants would then use them to buy goods from Quezlar's Quaff, completing the economically closed system which favored the Quezlar family and business. Thus was born the Quezlarian Ooo. Frighteningly enough, this actually increased the value of all the other Ooos, as no one could tell them apart and, being afraid of offending the fearsome Rhajoon, merchants took them in trade from Quezlar's Quaff employees. This continued until the volume of Ooos forced the Harrabloon Bank to actually establish an exchange rate for Ooos in general and the Quezlarian Ooo in particular.

This fine balancing act was maintained until -45 EC, when a large deposit of Ooo was found in the Azura Mines. These deposits were easily mined by the already large EctoMechanaut population, thus driving the relative value of both the Ooo and the Quezlarian Ooo close to their original low, where they remain today. (Is it a coincidence that this happened the same year that the NeoAlezanians first made their appearance? I think not!) However, the Quezlarian Ooo maintains a slightly higher value than the common, standard Ooo to this day, out of respect for the shrewd business practices of Rhajoon Quezlar.

Heresy! This flies in the face of the esteemed research of the Bureau of Forgotten Knowledge: The first great discovery of The Bureau was also under Meldersen's presidency: in conjunction with the Council for Quezlarian Research, The Bureau discovered the origins for Ghyll's unit of currency, the Quezlarian Ooo. Perhaps somewhat startlingly at the time, the research confirmed the traditional legend that our currency is named after the initial remark of Quezlar 6 upon discovering the first stone of dazzlingly beautiful Oooite. As a gesture of thankfulness, the Council for Quezlarian Research presented The Bureau with an Oooite stone said to be from the personal collection of Quezlar 6. --Morbus Iff 09:34, 7 Feb 2005 (EST)
