Got a question here. Wilhelmina Corinne Bardway is a key figure, the inventor of the SLM. I was trying to place her in time, and ran into a conflict. The Carsokian entry indicates that WCB made her discoveries in -100 EC. It also notes that she created the famous phaleros window at the Court of Odgar IV. But Odgar's court was from -266 to -239 (when he was defenestrated through said window). No one has specifically stated anything about Ghyllian lifespan (or have i just missed it?). But they seem to correspond to human lifespans. WCB could be incredibly long-lived, I suppose. I'm not sure how to resolve this. What do you suggest? --Brother Arfrus 16:52, 27 Sep 2005 (EDT)

In fact, there's Alezan Script that suggest she is still living in -5 EC too. But, take a look at Hermeneutics, which seems to preempt your concern: " Because good lord, she's old. And still so sassy!" As for Ghyllian lifespans, yes, she does pose a bit of a problem: there has been no specific indication of how old a Ghyllian can get, but largely, it has been humanish. There are a few possibilities: a) she really is that old (and I'd include some comment about how much older she is than the average Ghyllian so we can resolve the longevity issue), b) there is more than one person named WCB - perhaps her daughter (does one exist? I dunno), c) she's discovered some way of increasing her lifespan immensely, perhaps from her own research, d) and the one I kinda like: see Ghoulwood viola, which talks about Memories. Could she have become one? Could her work with the ghoulwood have imprinted her own memory onto the wood, and now she acts as a sort of muse (though "not intelligent, but vestigal repetitions of the past") to some grand player? This possibility goes a bit with a): her being so old strengthened her Memory in other people ("she's always been around, that there Wilhelmina"), which in turn empowers her being a Memory in her own invention: a ghoulwood instrument of some sort (a ghoulwood pencil? now that'd be interesting - would bring in ghostwriting). Going with that approach would place the real birth around Odgar IV (so that she'd really be alive to make the drawing), her very old (perhaps the oldest) age around -100 EC (perhaps it wasn't so much as "discovery" of ghoulwood, but a planned life-elongation principle), and her death shortly after - any further mention of her would be her Memory. --Morbus Iff 17:49, 27 Sep 2005 (EDT)
